Circus is an incredible tool of empowerment; it increases participants’ social confidence and physical fitness, as well as allowing for creative self-expression. This project aims to help make youth circus more inclusive for everyone, including young people with particular accessibility needs, and young people from marginalised backgrounds. Participating circus teachers will, by the end of the course, feel more equipped to support young people, and more aware of how to create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.
Places on this project are reserved for circus teachers who work regularly with young people, but who may or may not have a specific education in youth work. The project will give participants an understanding of what it feels like to be excluded, and how they can promote a safe and welcoming learning environment for young people of all backgrounds. The project will also increase awareness of the best practices that allow young people with particular needs to take part in circus activities.

This opportunity is Step Two of the project. Trainers who participate in Step Two will also be expected to help deliver a half day of training at the UK multiplier event (Step Three), at the CircusWorks Conference.

Food, transport, and all expenses necessary to the training and conference will be covered by the Ideas of Inclusion project. Participants will also receive free entry to all workshops and talks at the CircusWorks Conference 2022.

If no transport home is available on the departure date, an additional night at the hostel may be negotiated.
