Daniela and Naissa will talk about Scarabeus’ new production EMERGING, which centres on the relationship between a trans-son, Naissa, who has experienced gender dysphoria for as long as he can remember, and his mother, Daniela, as they embark on a journey into the unknown. Emerging is a multi-strand project that will result in a short film documentary, an immersive performance and an engagement and participation programme. Combining dance, aerial skills and excerpts from letters written to each other, they will harness their art to better understand both themselves and each other, as they navigate their relationship and a complex life-changing process.
While sensitively exploring the themes of gender, identity and representation, EMERGING is a universal story about a parent-child relationship, coming of age and independence. It’s an intimate experience of the power of creativity to facilitate profound change.
Emerging will be screened at Lost Horizon on Tuesday, 22nd February 2022, 7.45pm-8.30pm (including Q&A), as part of the Circus Rising social.
